重庆快乐英语口语比赛与众不同的是不可能事先准备, 现场5分钟回答评委提出的任何问题, 而首席提问评委亦由抽签决定.

 

评委按奥运会跳水比赛方式当场亮分, 并参照CCTV全国歌手大赛去掉最高及最低分, 可以说是最透明的比赛.

 

峰会核心志愿者风采大赛三十强文苑

进入决赛的三位高中生虽然发音一代更比一代强, 但表现不够成熟, 影响了名次. 例如说除了哈佛哪儿都不去, 不会考虑斯坦福和英国, 个人爱好是逛街购物, 以及明显讨好个别评委等等, 事实证明评委打分不仅看英语水平, 也受谈话内容的影响上[正如一篇作文, 观点不正确的话, 文笔再好都不可能高分]

If any contestant cannot show up at the drawing, he/she may name someone to represent him/her for the drawing.  However, if he/she misses his/her turn to be on the stage, a stand-by contestant will be the substitute.

Each contestant will “draw” a judge to “talk”with, but other judges may also ask whatever questions [No judges will be drawn for more than three times.]

Each conversation will take exactly five minutes, signaled by a whistle.

Each judge will then write his/her score on an A4 paper [on both sides] and show it to everyone.  The scoring system of the IELTS Speaking Test will be used as guideline [While the IELTS Speaking Test scores can only be integers, this competition allows decimal scores such as 5.6, 6.3 and 7.8.]

The highest and lowest scores will be eliminated in calculating each contestant’s average score.

Paid auditors: drawing for 4 invitations [more than 10% chance!] to the Chinese dinner right after the competition in Holiday Inn’s Chinese restaurant (Also, the RMB20 booking fee will be refunded.)

左一Dr. McEntire, 左二Mrs. Xiaofeng McEntire,重庆西师附中毕业,电力部北京电力科学研究院硕士, 旧金山太平洋电力高级主管,左五为重庆市副市长

Dr. McEntire is Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of Skye Investment Advisors LLC, an SEC-registered investment management company partly owned by J. P.Morgan, one of the U. S. largest banks.  Skye uses quantitative and qualitative fundamental methods to select stocks and has an excellent long-term investment performance record. 

Dr. McEntire has founded and served as Chairman of a mutual fund traded on the American Stock Exchange.  He also was the portfolio manager for a Morningstar five-star rated technology mutual fund.  Previously he was CEO of Optimization Technology, Inc., a software technology company, an economic researcher for the US National Science Foundation and Department of Energy, and a scientist on the Apollo space program. 

He has TV appearances on CNBC Business Center, CNNfn and Bloomberg, and coverage in the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Forbes, Business Week, the NY Times, Fortune, CNNfn.com, TheStreet.com, Yahoo!Finance Vision, Bridge, and Worth Magazine. 

Dr. McEntire has Lectured in the Engineering-Economic Systems Department at Stanford University, and has given many presentations and short-courses in the U.S. and around the world, including China, Japan, Switzerland and Bermuda.  He has visited China five times. 

He holds a B.S. in Mathematics (Phi Beta Kappa), M.S. and Ph.D. in Engineering-Economic Systems, all from Stanford University.  His thesis advisor was Professor David G. Luenberger.  He also holds an M.S. in Mathematics from the State University of New York.

　

重庆快乐英语第二届英语口语大奖赛海选结果[2005-10-09] 

九月七日至十月八日, 十次海选共86人报名, 71人面试[37男34女].

 按去年本英语角口语比赛我个人进行初选的标准, 约有三十多人达标, 但因比赛时间限制只能有二十人进入决赛, 所以我不得不忍痛绝对按外教的海选打分淘汰其中的十多人. 另外, 我也不得不忍痛淘汰: 1) 基础较差但进步很快值得鼓励的, 2) 本来可以晋级但由于紧张临场发挥较差的, 3) 在比我们高档得多的口语大赛中获奖的, 4) 至今261次英语角参加过150次以上的, 5) 长期支持我英语角工作的, 6) 一向热心为英语角服务的, 7) 本人迫切要求参加的, 8) 可怜天下父母心的, 9) 甚至还有个别我自以为的”得意门生”, 所以, 我终于理解到为什么柯以敏要退出超女评委.

 “公平, 公正, 公开”, 我希望我们的比赛无懈可击.

 决赛前, 如有未能参加决赛的同学认为自己比以下决赛选手英语口语好, 欢迎查阅海选分数原始记录. 我保证在同一天海选中绝没有高分被淘汰低分反而进入决赛的情况 [至于不同场次的海选, 由于评委不同, 其分数并无可比性]

 决赛后, 如任何同学认为某决赛选手口语水平相对太差, 也欢迎查阅海选分数原始记录 [如果评委确实给了高分, SORRY, IT IS NOT MY FAULT --- 我除个别人外, 所有人的分数都在6.0 – 7.0, 而各位外教评委的分数除个别人外在4.0 – 9.0, 所以我打的分对总分影响甚微.]

 All the 20 finalists above should arrive at Holiday Inn Nanping no later than 1:30pm, Oct. 30, 2005 (Sunday) because there will be a drawing to decide the sequence of the contestants.  If any contestant cannot show up at the drawing, he/she may name someone to represent him/her for the drawing.  However, if he/she misses his/her turn to be on the stage, a stand-by contestant will be the substitute. 

In any case, all the 25 people above are invited [which means totally free of charge] to the Chinese dinner at Holiday Inn right after the competition.  Therefore, if anyone cannot make it, please call John Peng at 13983616006. 

Also, one of every ten auditors without dinner invitation will be invited to the dinner by a on-spot drawing. 

The 3rd drawing: when a contestant gets on stage, he/she will draw his/her judge to question him/her first [though other judges may also ask questions]

 To make the competition the fairest one in China, the judges will show their scores like the diving competition.  The scores will then be copied on a whiteboard/flipchart for all the audience.

 Moreover, following CCTV’s convention, the highest and lowest scores given by the judges will be ignored when calculating each contestant’s final score.

重庆快乐英语第二届英语口语大奖赛(免费参加)

Chongqing Happy English Second Oral English Competition

(October 30, 2005, Holiday Inn, Chongqing)

Eligibility

Chongqing Happy English Level Seven Masters,foreign passport/green card holders and children still in primary schools or younger are not eligible.

Pre-screening[海选]

20 contestants will be selected from the applicants pre-screened.  5 stand-by contestants will also be selected just in case some of the contestants cannot make it.[See the pre-screening procedure attached.]

Competition procedure

No pre-prepared speeches, No pre-prepared list of questions. Instead, Q&A with judges only.

There will be five judges from US, Canada, UK, AUS and New Zealand. Each contestant will be assigned a judge randomly and the judge will ask the contestant whatever questions for about 5 minutes. Other judges may also ask questions.

The judges will then show their scores, but the highest and lowest scores will be ignored in averaging the scores.

Scoring criteria

Emphasis will be on pronunciation and fluency. Grammar and proper word usage are secondary.

There will not be so much emphasis on vocabulary and contents so that high school students can compete with college students on the same stage.

How to be an auditor

Reservation is required [see the reservation procedure attached].

First Prize (1): worth more than RMB 800
Second Prize (1): worth more than RMB 500
Third Prize (1): worth more than RMB 300

All 5 judges and the 25 contestants, plus 4 lucky draw winners from the audience, are invited to a Holiday Inn dinner right after the competition.

Contestant Pre-Screening Procedure海选程序 

1.            The application forms are to be distributed at Happy English Corners from Sept. 7 to Oct. 8. 

2.            There will be contestant screening sessions 930pm at the English corners after the grand prize drawing. 

3.            10-15 applcants will be accommodated for each screening session. If there are more than 10-15 applicants, some of them will have to be scheduled for a later session. 

4.            If an applicant does not show up when his/her name is called, he/she will be placed at the end of the queue. 

5.            John Peng and two native English speakers will have 2-3 minute casual conversation with each applicant. 

6.            20 contestants will be selected from the applicants screened.  5 stand-by contestants will also be selected just in case some of the contestants cannot make it. 

7.            6 Direct Passes will be given to the applicants who impress the screening panel. 

8.            The 25 selected contestants will be notified no later than October 9. 

9.            Chongqing Happy English Level Seven Masters,   foreign passport/green card holders and children still in primary schools or younger  are not eligible.
